Ecosystems Knowledge Network (EKN)
The Ecosystems Knowledge Network (EKN) is a UK-wide resource for anyone interested in sharing knowledge or learning how to plan, design and manage areas of land and water in accordance with the ecosystem approach. The ecosystem approach is a set of principles intended to achieve more holistic and inclusive care for the natural environment. It is the primary framework for action under the international Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The EKN has been developed by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, University of Exeter and Countryscape. It was launched in 2012 and is supported by funding contributions from Defra, Scottish Government and the Natural Environment Research Council (via the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service Sustainability Programme). The EKN website offers a wide range of resources including examples of practical projects, links to relevant tools and guidelines, lists of events and activities, and opportunities for discussion or information sharing.
